Farrington, Phil

Phillip A. Farrington, Ph.D. is Professor Emeritus of Industrial and Systems Engineering and Engineering Management at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Missouri and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Management from Oklahoma State University. He joined UAH in 1991 achieving the rank of Professor in 2007. From 2002 to 2008 he served as the Director of Distance Learning for the College of Engineering. From 2008 through 2010 he served as Acting Dean of Engineering. From 2012 through 2017, he led the NASA Systems Engineering Consortium. During his career, Dr. Farrington secured over $7.6 million in external research funding and published over 90 technical articles. He chaired 17 Ph.D. committees and 86 Masters committees. He was a member of ASEE, a Senior Member of IIE and ASQ, and a Fellow of the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM). He held a variety of leadership positions with ASEM including Technical Program Co-Chair for the 2001 National Conference, Functional Director for Communications, Associate Editor of the Engineering Management Journal, and Chair of the ASEM Fellows. After retiring from UAH in May 2017 he took a part-time position with TriVector Services, Inc. where he serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) Program Manager. Phil and his wife Karen have been married 36 years and have five (5) children and seven (7) grandchildren.
