Nittler, David

Dr. Nittler grew up in Oklahoma City. He attended Capitol Hill High School where he received the Gold Letzeiser Award (equivalent to Valedictorian) and the W. H. Steve Engineering Award upon graduation in 1960. At Oklahoma State University he received a BS Degree in Civil Engineering with a Construction option in 1965 and an MS degree in Industrial Engineering and Management in 1967. Dave began his career with IBM in Tulsa as a Marketing Rep. He was granted a military leave of absence to join the US Navy Civil Engineering Corps. where he served as a combat engineer in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969 as a Construction Company Commander with US Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Eleven. He was also deployed to Guam and Okinawa as a detachment Operations Officer. In 1970, Dave returned to IBM, but left in 1973 to assume a new position as Construction Project Manager with LE Smith Construction Co. in Tulsa.

In 1975, Dave returned to college at the University of Tulsa to start a new career in medicine. In 1976 he entered the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry and upon graduation in 1980, he established a Dental Practice in Edmond, OK. He retired after 27 years of practice in 2007. Dave is an Honorary Life Member of the Oklahoma Dental Association (ODA) and the American Dental Association (ADA). He is also a 30 year member of the Dean Robertson Society at the OU College of Dentistry. After graduation, he was a part-time Clinical Instructor at OUCOD. Dr. Nittler and Betty have been honored by having two modern operatories named for them at the OUCOD.

Dave has been married to Betty J Nittler for 33 years and they have three adult children and five grandchildren.

While at OSU he was a member of Sigma Chi Social Fraternity, and honorary fraternities: Chi Epsilon, Alpha Pi Mu and Sigma Tau. He was president of the Engineering Student Council, Chi Epsilon and a member of Blue Key. He received the Engineering Saint Pat’s Award given to the top ten Engineering Seniors.

Dave is also an Eagle Scout and recipient of the Silver Award in Explorer Scouting and Order of the Arrow.
