IEM Students Awarded MHEF Scholarships

MHEF is an independent charitable organization that was established in 1976 with a mission to promote the study of material handling, logistics and supply chains by exposing students and educators to the industry through financial support. Since 1976, more than $2.5 million in scholarships and grants have been awarded to students at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. 45 scholarships were awarded for the 2017/2018 academic term for a total of $146,100. The following scholarships were awarded by MHEF.

Akshay Nigade was awarded the Rack Manufacturers Institute/John Nofsinger Honor Scholarship in the amount of$2,500


The School of Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) moved up seven spots this year in the US News Engineering graduate program ranking! In the past five years, IEM’s rankings have improved from 42 to 32.

IAC Explores Energy Conservation at OKlahoma Steel Mill


 Under the supervision of Dr. William Kolarik, the IAC team from Oklahoma State University (OSU) performed an energy-use assessment at an Oklahoma steel mill on March 29, 2017. Students on the IAC team appreciated the opportunity to evaluate the internal processes of a steelmaker with a connected load of 50 MW and annual production of more than 300,000 tons of steel wire used to produce fencing products. 

Dr. Baski Balasundaram Receives 2016 Regents Distinguished Research Award

Dr. Balasundaram conducts research into developing theories and algorithms for mathematical optimization problems involving large-scale networks. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles in journals, conference proceedings, and handbooks with his articles having been cited more than 500 times. He has secured more than $3.25 million in competitive research grants and is a co-principal investigator on a $950,000 National Science Foundation grant funding a new supercomputer cluster at OSU.

Fall 2016 Graduation Luncheon

IEM graduates, their families, faculty and staff got together on Saturday, December 10th 2016 to celebrate Fall graduation.  The department would like to congratulate the students on their success and thank everyone for coming.  Photos can be found here.


PhD student Babak Farmanesh - finalist in the QSR-INFORMS best paper competition

Babak Farmanesh, a PhD student in the School of Industrial Engineering and Management, was a finalist in the QSR-INFORMS best paper competition. The QSR (quality, statistics, and reliability) section is an interdisciplinary section of INFORMS, the Institute For Operations Research and the Management Sciences. It is comprised of members from industrial engineering, statistics, and business communities from different countries.

IEM student and OSU wide receiver Chris Lacy is “Not too cool for school”

Industrial Engineering student, Chis Lacy works hard and excels at whatever he commits to. He is pursuing an IEM degree as well as playing football for OSU. Lacy is #15 and wide receiver for Oklahoma State.

CEAT Chili Cookoff Friday, November 11th

There will be a United Way chili cook-off, silent auction, and raffle on Friday, November 11th, 2016 starting at 11:30am in the ATRC student Excellence Center.

Tickets are $5.00 at the door, a ticket will get you chili, entrance into the raffle, and pictures with Pistol Pete. There will also be a silent Auction. Proceeds go to United Way.
